1.
What is your name, where are you located now and where were
you originally from?
My name is Christine Hsu and I've been living and working in
Taipei, Taiwan since early 1995. I am originally from
the U.S. -- which makes me Chinese American or "ABC"
(American-born Chinese) -- and last resided/worked in
Washington, D.C. before moving to Taipei.
2. What do you do for a living and what is your opinion of
your job?
By day, I am an editor for a local trade organization in
Taipei. I
don't suppose that I have much of an opinion about my job,
other than the fact that it pays the bills for what I do
off-hours as Co-Founder of ORIENTED and as Producer of
HeyChristine.com, both of which are personal projects
that I hope to spin off into small business endeavors.
Previously, I was with Citibank Taiwan (operations and
technology) and
Wang & Li Asia Resources (project management).
3. If you could live and work somewhere else, where would
that be? Why?
Well, it would be one of three choices, that allowed?!
It's a toss up between San Francisco (because some of my
closest friends have made the bay area their home), New York
City (same reason), and Shanghai (because that city ROCKS!).
4. What is your average day like?
Hectic! It takes me forever to get out of bed (I must
hit the snooze bar at least 10 times) but once I'm up, I am SO
up! First I cruise into Starbucks to buy a Grande Latte
which I pretty much milk the entire day. As soon as I
get in the office, I check email and visit all of my sites for
any problems. The rest of the day is spent negotiating
for time between my day job, my personal projects, and my
social activities.
I am usually at work until pretty late unless I have dinner
plans with friends or colleagues (and on the rare occasion, a
D-A-T-E, woah...). And if I am home early enough, I hang out
with my housemates for a little bit before retreating to my
room where I either a) log back on to the Internet while lying
horizontal on my bed (laptop is sideways too), b) play the
piano, or c) pass out. By then, it's usually 1 a.m.
