Apotheosis Anyone?

by Robyn Soto

Asian Girls Are Easy

This is probably the most infuriating phrase that I heard lately. It's much worse than being called an Asian. Okay, fine, discriminate me for my parents' race but don't ever think that it makes me a prostitute. Argh! I'm still pretty pissed off!

I have this friend. She's a true blue blonde. She has a boyfriend who is a good person. But his brother have had far too many trips to South East Asia, particularly to prostitution and phedopelia hotspots. And he has this almost sickly way of talking to girls of Asian background. And once while having a drink I did hear him mutter "Asian girls are easy".

It is very upsetting. But even more upsetting for other Asian girls who are still using their native country's passport. Some of my Filipino friends complain that they are often suspected of trying to sneak into some countries like Japan to work as prostitutes.

Obviously it is because of the image that some Asian places promote. It's very common on the news to see sex clubs in Burma, Thailand, Macao, Philippines and other Asian countries. Also as common are minors working as prostitutes.

Another common thing is the notion that a lot of Asian women wants to marry western men in order to get a visa or a citizenship. I hate it but I cannot deny its existence. And what about Asian girls seen on TV and on the movies?

How can I forget the time when I was asked in a bar by this guy who was mimicking a Chinese accent if I want some from him and his American friends. How disgusting and degrading is that???

I really don't know whom to take this complain to. While some Asian girls do promote that notion of being an easy catch there are also so many uninformed people who takes things as they see them, or as the way gossip reaches their ears. It's just disappointing, upsetting, degrading and above all discriminating.

It's a form of discrimination that's imbedded within a discrimination. Argh! I'm still pissssssed off!!!
