A comment on Claire de Leon's article "Co-editor's Crap". "I am just repeating the question that you asked yourself Claire: "Why can't there be just Americans rather than having Asian-Americans or African-Americans? Or Asian-British and African-British than just British?" And you answered: "...because we want them to know how and why they should find their way into the culture and society of the country where they live in and make a positive contribution." Shouldn't these people just learn that before migrating? If they think they cannot blend in they should just stay where they are." Lewis von Braud Sussex, England Claire: It's a "chicken and egg" situation. Which one must come first? Migrating or blending in? If migrating first before learning to blend in is not pleasant to some people, then how can someone learn to blend in before migrating. No person can ever be prepared enough to migrate to a foreign country. There will be adjustments and unavoidable hiccups. It is not easy. This is where an open attitude counts and that is what we're trying to promote. __________________ A comment on Robyn Soto's article "Asian Girls Are Easy". "On
the other side of things, I'm a white guy studying Chinese, and everytime
I tell someone this, they make a crack about me being into Asian girls.
Not so; I enjoy the Chinese language, and I'm interested in the
literature, and beyond that, I dislike everyone just about equally. Brendan O'kane Philadelphia, USA Robyn:
Thank you for your encouraging comment. It is quite moving to get such a
response from someone who is on a neutral stance. A lot of people say what
I wrote was true yet sensitive, and until now I'm only getting feedback
from extreme sides of the spectrum. I may be at fault though. Because I
failed to emphasize that it is an attitude which is also demeaning to
other races, such as hispanics, african americans, caucasians americans
and not just Asians. Thank you for bringing it up on your comment. A comment on ThoseBrownEyes and its crew. "I don't mean to offend anyone but doesn't this website seem to be tooo chick oriented :)" Lee Wye Jon Malaysia Marvin: Well... It's been two issues since we had a guy on the cover, and the rest of the crew is female. But it's not detrimental to ThoseBrownEyes' objectives. However, this reflects the lack of support from the male half of the population. =) __________________ A comment on the banner for "Apotheosis Anyone?". "I like thosebrowneyes a lot. I like the new staff and the new people. Can I just ask something: Is that Robyn's belly button? I think it's cute to have a belly button ring." Miguella Cebu, Philippines Robyn: ..neither confirmed nor denied! __________________ A question about our previous cover, Christine Hsu. Your online zine improved greatly. This is wonderful. I'm in love with your cover, Christine !!! -> You forgot to ask if she already has a boyfriend. Sage Sapporo, Japan Marvin: I think it would be best to ask her yourself. =) __________________
